Free Services for Adult Learners

Our classes are tailored to meet you where you are. Our supportive, experienced teachers will work with you 1:1 and help you reach your unique learning goals!

To be eligible for our free classes, you must be:

  • 17+ years old
  • not enrolled in high school
  • Lacking basic skills such as English speaking, reading, or writing, math, career preparation, GED prep, and computer skills.

GED Prep & Test Proctoring

The GED is a high school equivalency exam for those who didn’t earn a traditional diploma.

Our classes provide study support, free practice materials, and guidance to help you prepare for the test.

When you're ready, we also offer test proctoring at the Eastview Education Center in Monticello, an official test site!

English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes

ESL classes are for adults whose first language is not English.

Whether you're just starting to learn the language or looking to refine your skills, we can help you build the abilities needed to reach your goals and communicate more effectively within your community.

Eligibility Note: Individuals with certain temporary visas, such as tourist or exchange student visas, are NOT eligible.

Adult Basic Skills Classes

Adult basic skills classes support adults looking to improve fundamental skills to a high school level, including:

  • Math
  • Reading, grammar, or writing
  • Computer/digital skills

Improving these skills can open doors to college, expand job opportunities, support career growth, and enhance personal fulfillment.

Online Professional Skills Classes

Minnesota ABE is piloting new Online Statewide Training Courses, focusing on helping learners earn specialized skills and earn career-related certifications. While classes are subject to change, offerings may include course on topics such as:

  • Paraprofessional Training Certification
  • Microsoft Office Specialist Certification 

These free online courses feature both whole group and 1:1 support. All classes require additional study time outside of class. Don't have a device? We have some that you can borrow.
